(Palestine) – The discussion of a cannabis dispensary in Palestine appears to be far from over. During the June Village Board meeting a dispensary was approved. However, due to a technicality, that vote was vacated during last week’s meeting. During that same meeting, a large contingent on both sides of the issue spoke to the Village Board and presented the pros and cons of a dispensary. Following the lengthy discussion the Palestine Village Board tabled a vote on the issue to the August meeting. Medical cannabis has been legal in Illinois since 2014 and recreational cannabis has been legal statewide since January 2020. According to the Marijuana Policy Project, last year the one-hundred-thirteen dispensaries across the state sold one point five billion dollars of marijuana products generating five-hundred-sixty-two million dollars in tax revenue.
