Elimination of Cash Bail in the State to be Decided this Week

(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois Supreme Court is expected to rule this week on whether to eliminate cash bail in the state. The state’s Supreme Court heard arguments in March from lawyers over the controversial provision of the landmark “SAFE-T Act.” A Kankakee County judge ruled in December that removing cash bail is unconstitutional and Illinois Attorney General, Kwame Raoul, appealed to the state’s high court which is expected to file its ruling tomorrow.
