(Undated) – As we get ready to begin a new school year, motorists are reminded to be on high alert before and after school. Be on the lookout for children walking and riding their bikes to and from school, children darting out from between parked cars, as well as speeds in school zones. Authorities also remind motorists, that when approaching a stopped school bus with lights activated and stop-arm extended, you must stop before reaching the bus. Failure to do so can result in fines and suspension of your driver’s license. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more school-age pedestrians have been killed during the hour before and after school than at any other time of day. Classes begin across the county this Friday.
