Judith “Judy” Ann Medsker, 65, of Bloomington, IN, passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2024. Born on August 23, 1959, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to the late Charles Noel & Barbara Louise (Smith) Medsker.

Judy grew up in Robinson, Illinois, and was a proud graduate of Robinson High School, class of 1977. She carried her passion for learning and helping others into her adult life, returning home to achieve a cum laude master’s degree in psychology from Eastern Illinois University. Her educational pursuits laid the foundation for a fulfilling career dedicated to counseling and supporting those battling addiction.

For many years, Judy provided family counseling at Southeastern in Robinson, before taking her talents to Brazil, Indiana, where she worked for the Hamilton Center and Groups. Her journey continued as she moved to Greencastle to counsel at the prison and later to Crawfordsville as a counselor. Judy eventually settled in Bloomington, where she became a valued addiction counselor at the Indiana Center for Recovery. She found great worth in her work, impacting countless lives through her commitment and compassion.

She was known for her “blonde characteristics,” Judy’s gentle nature often found humor passing over her head, a trait that endeared her to all who knew her. Her nieces and nephews were the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with them. From canoeing at Turkey Run to sharing life’s simple pleasures, Judy’s greatest joy was being in their company.

A woman of deep faith, Judy’s many Bibles, filled with notes, prayers, and scripture, reflected a life lived in close relationship with the Lord. She was an active member of Eastside Christian Church in Brazil, Indiana, where her faith flourished.

Judy’s love of warmth and sunshine often drew her to the beach. She held a special place in her heart for Florida and the Dominican Republic, where she taught English in a Christian school in 2005. There, she cared for a baby girl with significant health problems, Anna Noelle, whom she supported tirelessly, embodying the very essence of selfless love.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, by her brother, Jerry Medsker; by her grandparents, Charles W. & Edna F. Medsker, Walter R. Smith, and Thelma M. & Max Springer; by her aunt & uncles, Virginia & Silas Rayhel and Richard A. Smith; and by her nephew, Jasonte Medsker.

She is survived by her daughter, Anna Noelle Gutierrez Medsker (Dominican Republic); by her siblings, Charles & Mary Medsker (Casey, IL), Marian Parish (Vincennes, IN), Brian & Debbie Medsker (Robinson, IL), and Mark & Marilyn Medsker (Kennewick, WA); by her aunt, Donna DiNaso; and three cousins, Robert (Sara) Rayhel, Brenda (Mark) Gaddis and Lynetta Norton. She is also survived by five nephews: Daren Mitchell, Sean (Gretchen) Mitchell, Brenton (Anna) Mitchell, Aaron (Jordan) Medsker, and Jason Gonzalez and seven nieces; Hope Medsker, Heather (Patrick) Phillips, Kyndal (Ryan) Keen, Aubyn Medsker (Chandler Wallace), La’Ticia Wilks, and Jaleesa (Andrew) Duncan; by several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, at Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Bill Greenwood officiating. During the service, family and friends will have the opportunity to share their favorite memories of this wonderful woman.
