If You’re “In a Slump” it Could be SAD

(Undated) – If you find yourself “in a slump” during the winter season, you may be experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder, also known as SAD. According to the American Psychiatric Association, five percent of adults in the U.S. experience SAD with symptoms including fatigue, weight gain associated with overeating, and carbohydrate cravings. SAD symptoms can vary from mild to severe and include many symptoms similar to major depression. If you’re like most people with SAD, your symptoms start in the fall and continue into the winter months. SAD can be caused by a disruption in your circadian rhythm, a drop in serotonin, and a decrease in melatonin levels, all things that are related to the decrease in sunlight this time of year.
