Karen Jo (Calvert) Hunt, 72, of Palestine, IL, passed away on December 9, 2024, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. Born on March 2, 1952, in Palestine, she was the daughter of Robert “Dwight” Calvert and Shirley Rose (Neely) Calvert-Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her special cousin, Connie McCord, and her beloved “girlie doggies,” JoJo and LuLu, who are surely curled up in their mommy’s lap in heaven.

Karen grew up in Palestine and was a 1970 graduate of Palestine High School. She spent much of her life working in roles that showcased her determination and care. She retired from Hershey Chocolate and later dedicated herself to Addis Healthcare, providing much-needed and compassionate support to the elderly and home-bound. This season of her life left a lasting impression, and she carried the memory of her patients with her always.

The owner of a remarkable green thumb, Karen could coax life and beauty from any patch of soil. She especially loved the flowers she grew in the Florida sunshine, where she and her husband Tony spent their retirement years at their trailer. Whether enjoying the peace of their river cabin or the warm Florida breezes, Karen found joy in the simple pleasures of life—taking care of her beloved dogs and cats, listening to music from The Charlie Daniels Band, or watching Yellowstone (on repeat).

Above all, Karen was devoted to her family. She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Tony Hunt; her son, John Crampton; her stepchildren, Jonathan Hunt and Susan Stoops; her grandchildren, Jarrett Crampton, Chase Crampton, Bryce Crampton, Jackson Harmon, and Andrew Crampton; by her great-granddaughters, Layla and Lakelyn; her sister, Toni Gayle Calvert; her brother, Danny Dwight Calvert and his wife, Eva Marie Calvert; and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her fiercely independent spirit.

Karen’s wish was to be cremated, and a private graveside service will be held in the Palestine Cemetery at a later date. In honor of her love for animals, memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Humane Society. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
