(Undated) – The Robinson/Crawford Enterprise Zone expansion was recently approved. Robinson Mayor, Mike Shimer, says the Enterprise Zone has been around since 1990 and was used exclusively for commercial development. However, in recent years the State of Illinois has approved adding residential to the Enterprise Zone. Shimer says this expansion could help with the housing shortage countywide.
Shimer says this is a tool the state has provided to encourage growth and gives people an opportunity to take advantage of sales tax abatements on new construction. He says he believes there will be additional expansion in 2025.
