C. Russell Preston, Jr., 78, of Robinson, IL, passed away on March 28, 2025, at Richland Nursing & Rehab in Olney, IL.
Born July 3, 1946, he was the son of Clyde & B. Jane (Pinkstaff) Preston, both of whom preceded him in death. A 1964 graduate of Lawrenceville High School, his career began with a short stint at Sam Abel’s junkyard-until an engine fell on his foot, prompting a change in direction. In 1967, he began working at Crawford Memorial Hospital, where he served as an orderly before transitioning to the laundry and housekeeping departments. He proudly spent 46 years at the hospital, meeting countless people along the way and becoming known for striking up conversations with complete strangers. He was a longtime, active member of the Robinson Lion’s Club and was also a member of the Porterville Congregational Christian Church.
The highlight of his life was the adoption of his two daughters, Amber (John) Stambaugh of Robinson, IL, and Crystal Preston (Stanley Mason) of Lawrenceville, IL. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Grant Wampler and Ameila Mason, and his sister, Rev. Nita Preston of Palestine, IL.
