Cardinals Lose On April Fool’s 9-7

  1. Both pitchers cruised through the side, save for a Lars Nootbaar single
  2. Liberatore had no trouble once again, while Nolan Gorman doubled for the Cardinals, and Jordan Walker (!) sent him home with a single. Victor Scott II also singled. 1-0 Cards
  3. The wheels fall off for Liberatore with back to back run scoring doubles by Rengifo (1 RBI) and Trout (2 RBI). 3-1 Angels
  4. Liberatore would only give up 3 runs this game. Jordan Walker hit a solo home run with a loud crack of the bat! I think the solo home runs have carried over from last season. 3-2 Angels
  5. Brendan Donovan inning ending ground into double play
  6. Rengifo single, Liberatore exits with 6 hits and 4 strikeouts, 6 IP, 3 ER
  7. Leahy and Angels pitcher Ian Anderson both retired the side
  8. Leahy retired the side with the help of Arenado, then Nootbaar single, then Arenado reached due to error, which scored Nootbaar! Tie game.
  9. Closer legends Ryan Helsley and Kenley Jansen both retire the side
  10. Ryan Fernandez gotten to with the ghost runner, a leadoff walk, and then a triple 🙁 5-3 Angels… then Jo Adell scoring Schanuel! 6-3 Angels. Cardinals match the feat by another leadoff walk, and a Luken Baker double! 5-5 tied up again. Siani replaced Baker on the basepaths and then Arenado hit a single, tying the game at 6!
  11. Chris Roycroft was summoned and he gave up 3 runs in bullpen relief! 9-6 Angels. In the bottom of the 11th, Victor Scott II singled in the ghost runner, and tried to ignite yet another comeback, making it 9-7. Winn, Nootbaar, and Contreras could not figure out a way to get on base though, and the Cardinals lost the series to the Angels in 11.

Noteworthy

  • Nootbaar 2-6
  • Walker 2-5 with a home run and a stolen base
  • Scott II 2-5
  • Leahy and Helsley were good, Fernandez and Roycroft were not; Liberatore was ok in his first start of the season
