A Seoul court has ruled in favour of ADOR to uphold its injunction against NewJeans (aka NJZ) and the group’s ability to carry out independent activities.

The injunction was first granted last month, two days before the quintet were meant to headline ComplexCon in Hong Kong under their rebanded group new, NJZ. The quintet previously described the first ruling as a “shock”with leader Minji saying she was “stunned” upon receiving the news.

NewJeans had filed a legal objection the day of the initial ruling, however has since been rejected after an additional hearing. “Even while keeping in mind the claims and supporting materials [that the NewJeans members] are repeatedly emphasising through this appeal,” the judge said, as translated by Soompi. “By reading through the records, one can judge that this injunction decision is just.”

Immediately after the court rejected NewJeans’ objection, the K-pop idols went on to appeal the decision to the Seoul High Court. “We will continue to diligently participate in the legal proceedings to come and do our utmost so that the facts can be clearly revealed,” a legal representative of NewJeans said of the appeal.

NewJeans and their former label ADOR continue to be engaged in legal battle through their contract lawsuit, which had its first hearing earlier this month. The lawsuit was filed by ADOR in 2024 to verify the validity of their contracts after the girl group held an emergency press conference to announce they were terminating their contracts with ADOR in November 2024.
