(Undated) — The Better Business Bureau recently issued a warning about moving scams. The agency took nearly 6,000 complaints about moving companies last year, averaging about a $350 median loss. BBB Investigator, Don O’Brien, says among the alleged schemes is bumping up the estimated price to move the belongings at the last minute, some movers even become confrontational, holding your belongings hostage until you fork over more money.
Before hiring a moving company, O’Brien suggests you watch out for fly-by-night companies, be wary of unusual requests, get everything in writing, and keep an inventory of your belongings.
