By Tony Collins Oct 5, 2024 | 4:39 AM

Lisa Schaefer, 64, of Hutsonville, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, in the comfort of her home, cradled by the love of her family. Born on November 26, 1959, in Indianapolis, IN, to Dr. John & Susanna “Susie” (Kinney) Newlin, Lisa grew up in Robinson, IL, where she spent countless hours at her father’s dental office. It was no surprise that she would follow in his footsteps, earning her associate degree from Lakeland College and beginning a lifelong career as a dental hygienist in 1979. For 44 years, Lisa dedicated herself to her patients, working alongside both her father and later her son, Will. Dentistry wasn’t just a profession for Lisa—it was an extension of her nurturing spirit, helping her build lasting relationships with her patients, who often became friends.

Lisa’s adventurous spirit took her to many beautiful places over her lifetime—from the beaches of Hawaii to RV trips across the country. Her travels were filled with wonderful memories, but her greatest adventure was the life she built at home. On July 14, 1979, Lisa married her soulmate, Michael Schaefer. Together, they cultivated a life rooted in a love that grew as their family did. She was a devoted mother to her children, Will and Abby, and the proudest grandmother to Madilyn, Max, Liam, Hudson, and Harper. Known affectionately as “Noey,” Lisa had a magical way of turning everyday moments with her grandchildren into cherished memories. Whether it was baking her famous chocolate chip cookies, crafting, or cheering them on at ball games, her joy was found in their smiles and laughter. She had the unique gift of making each grandchild feel like they were the most important person in the world—and to her, they were.

Lisa was a creator in the truest sense. Her hands seemed to effortlessly weave beauty into everything she touched, whether she was sewing outfits for her children, crafting with her grandchildren, or organizing a family gathering that made everyone feel at home. She was a master at bringing people together, be that for a reunion or a simple evening at home. Her creativity wasn’t just seen in the things she made, but in the way she lived—weaving goodness into the little details, joy into the moments shared, and life into the simple acts of love that filled her days.

Her kindness was as boundless as her talents. Lisa’s heart was open to all—her family, her friends, and anyone in need. She had an unshakable strength, even as her body weakened, always putting others before herself, always there with a kind word or a helping hand. Her compassion wasn’t loud or showy—it was a quiet, steady presence, like the warmth of a fire on a cold day, or the soft glow of a candle in the dark. And that light—her light—will continue to burn bright through the lives of those who carry her in their hearts.

She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Michael Schaefer; her children, Dr. J. William “Will” Schaefer (and wife Korie) and Abby Schaefer (and friend Denver Musgrave); by her grandchildren, Madilyn Schaefer, Max Schaefer, Liam Schaefer, Hudson Williams, and Harper Williams; by her mother-in-law, Nan Schaefer; by her sisters-in-law, Marcia Philippe, Vickie McDonald, and Cathy Harris; and by her cousins, Carolyn Woodworth, Techla Stromberg, Kathy Kennedy, Jack Watts, and Tim Feezle. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. John & Susie Newlin; her father-in-law, Lloyd Schaefer; and her aunts, Mary Jean Richart, Harriet Watts, and Nanette Feezle.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m., with Pastor Clint Batcheller officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the “NOW Program”, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
