(Oblong) – The Village of Oblong is reminding residents that “opt out” letters for the Electric Aggregation Program from Constellation will hit mail boxes this week. Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, says she knows this is always a confusing time for many residents. Fielder explains when you receive the cards, if you do nothing, you will automatically be enrolled in the Village aggregate price with Constellation NewEnergy Inc. However, you will still be serviced by Ameren and will receive your bill from Ameren. The Village offers several “Things to Consider” when making this decision. Learn more below.
Things to consider:
1. The Village of Oblong aggregate will see a rate decrease beginning in December. This locked in rate will hold through May, 2025.
2. The municipal rate will decrease to 8.22, helping you save on your energy bills.
3. Automatic Inclusion: All residents will be automatically included IN the program UNLESS YOU choose to opt out.
4. This is how the aggregrate program is set up-the Village of Oblong has ZERO control over the automatic inclusion process.
5. YOU have the flexibility to OPT OUT of the program at any time.
6. Choosing Another Supplier: If you decide to go with another energy supplier, please check if the company offers a FIXED RATE, and understand the length of that contract.
7. AMEREN RATES: While Ameren may offer better rates at certain times, PLEASE NOTE they are UNABLE to lock in rates fully and may have several adjustments.
8. If you go back to the Ameren rate, you have to stay on their rate for 1 year.
We encourage you to review your options carefully and make the best choice for your household. What is good for one household might not be good for another.
Brokering for the best aggregation price for municipalities is done every year.
