Gas Prices Trend Higher as Oil Prices Reach Highest Level in Months

By Tony Collins Jan 21, 2025 | 6:34 AM

(Undated) – The national average for a gallon of regular unleaded has begun to climb. According to GasBuddy Head of Petroleum Analysis, Patrick De Haan, it was only a matter of time, with oil prices last week reaching their highest level since July. He says in addition, with President Trump’s inauguration, there could be price impacts depending on the executive orders he is preparing to sign. De Haan says GasBuddy will be closely monitoring potential impacts from any orders while the threat of tariffs and possible retribution from Canada remain top of mind. However, the current increase is not yet the traditional seasonal rise, which is also likely to push prices higher and could begin in a few weeks. The current national average has jumped to $3.12 a gallon, up two cents from yesterday.
