John Seaney, 87, of Palestine, IL, passed away on February 3, 2025, at Robinson Rehab in Robinson, IL.

Born on August 4, 1937, in rural Palestine, IL, John was the second of four children of Clarence and Ethel (Crum) Seaney. He graduated from Palestine High School in 1955 and soon after proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. A man of many trades, John worked at the mill, helped on the family farm, and later built a career that reflected his diverse skills and strong work ethic.

On May 14, 1966, he married the love of his life, Rozella “Rozie” Richards, and together they built a life in Palestine. With Rozie, he gained a bonus daughter, and on February 1, 1968, they welcomed their son, Todd Seaney. John worked as a mechanic for HL Musgrave, later drove trucks for Endsley’s Food Service and Tempco, and eventually finished his career at Effingham Equity, reconnecting with his farming roots.

John’s greatest joys were spending time with his family, tending to his garden, and helping his son Todd restore a 1949 Studebaker truck. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his hardworking spirit, and the simple pleasures he found in life.

John is survived by his daughter, Kelly & Richard Cheek of Oblong, IL; his daughter-in-law, Anita Seaney of Hutsonville, IL; his grandchildren, Tiffany & Trenton Clapp, Derek & Nicole Seaney, Ryan & Marli Cheek, Kacey Cheek, Katie Cheek, Debra Gunn, and Steven & Yolanda Cheek; his great-grandchildren, Lexi, Devin, Connor, Harper, Emersyn, and Sawyer; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister & brother-in-law, Cheryl & John Bruner of Indianapolis, IN; as well as several nephews, nieces, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Rozie Seaney; his son, Todd Seaney; his brother, Harold Seaney; and his sister, Linda Rich.
